CAR-MARKET-MODELS

The artwork explores the second-hand car market in Utena City, a location pivotal in shaping the artist’s male identity during his childhood. In response to the ongoing digital transformation of urban spaces and landscapes—where traditional second-hand car markets full of human interactions are transitioning to online car ad platforms—new technologies were employed to preserve and create new memories. This approach ensured that fading stories could continue to exist and thrive in a virtual environment. This was achieved by utilizing a lidar scanner, drone photogrammetry, and by fine-tuning the GPT-2 large language model. A curated blend of resources was used for this purpose, including articles from local Utena city newspaper archives, personal recollections and narratives, memories contributed by individuals engaged in the Utena used car market, and a selection of books chosen to evoke specific emotions and writing styles. Text generation techniques were employed, along with the incorporation of a diverse array of inspirational sources. The fusion of AI technology and personal experiences resulted in the construction of a virtual world where vanishing narratives can continue to exist and resonate. The artistic endeavor aimed to explore the potential of AI to rejuvenate memories and stories within the evolving landscape of urban settings.
