Concert by Julija Bagdonavičiūtė

October 24, 6:00 p.m.

The focus of Julija Bagdonavičiūtė’s debut album Flow is the archive of the Lithuanian Music Information Centre, which led the performer to explore the works of eleven composers. The program intertwines solo piano pieces with various chamber music works, including The Silence of Falling Snow for two pianos by Justė Janulytė and I Went – I Look for voice and piano by Mindaugas Urbaitis.

In the context of the album, the idea of flow—as a state of continuous movement and multiplicity—helps to shape a multifaceted musical narrative in which encounters between diverse aesthetics and moods give rise to unexpected and inspiring dialogues. As Linas Paulauskis notes, “this program reveals various planes of contemporary Lithuanian piano music: some pieces are quiet, fragile, and atmospheric, while others are full of contrasts or collisions, sometimes featuring an almost aggressive-sounding electronic part (and here the contrast between these two worlds is consciously sought).”

Recurring motifs, programmatic depth, and diverse compositional means highlight the constant interdependence of different elements, seeking parallels and connections between them.

During the concert, the performer will present the full album program live, share the creative contexts and thematic connections of the works, and invite the audience to an open discussion on the interpretation and experience of contemporary Lithuanian music.
