Meia noite meio dia
For more than thirty years, every single day, without any days off, my grandmother has travelled alone from Porto to Vila Real to work. Her job consists in the distribution of newspapers and magazines in the early hours of the morning to various cafés and kiosks in the Vila Real district. Over the last ten years, I’ve sporadically accompanied her to work.
My grandmother is now 67 years old and retired. However, she has chosen not to stay at home. The journey she makes is quite tough, especially in the winter. All this intrigued me and forced me to think about the importance of work in people’s lives, especially the impact it has and how it affects the quality of life.
I photographed every moment of my grandmother’s daily working life: from her departure from Porto to the distributor’s warehouse at midnight, to the delivery of the last bundle of newspapers at 12 noon.
