The Same Faces
The exhibition presents photographs by Žilvinas Glušinskas made at the Galera bar in Kaunas between 2022 and 2026 and in alternative music clubs in Tokyo between 2023 and 2025. Although geographically distant, these environments are culturally connected, and Glušinskas approaches them from the perspective of a concert participant and a member of alternative communities.
According to the artist, the photographs are both documentary and artistic. They record subcultural environments and the people within them while using the aesthetics of analogue photography to convey an immediate experience of alternative cultural spaces.
Photography also functions here as a means of creating and sustaining relationships. Glušinskas regularly organises exhibitions at Galera and gives analogue prints to the people he photographs. In this way, photography becomes not only a form of documentation but also a way of maintaining interpersonal ties and the vitality of a subcultural community. The artist illustrates this through a story about a band he photographed in Tokyo: he later gave the print to the band members when they performed in Kaunas.
