Biography
Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen (b. 1994) is a self-taught photographer and film director from Copenhagen, Denmark. Formally trained as a medical doctor, she explores the intersection between science and art, using photography to investigate perception, identity, and the human psyche.
Working with mirrors and reflective materials, Ebbesen creates distortions that blur the boundaries between photography and painting, reality and imagination. Her images combine nature, the nude body, flowers, fruits, and symbolic objects in dreamlike compositions that explore identity, memory, the subconscious, and the relationship between the individual and the surrounding world. Recurring self-portraits and fragmented figures address vulnerability, resilience, sexuality, and emotional complexity through a distinctly female gaze.
Characterised by vibrant colours and strong natural light, her work balances vitality with themes of impermanence, uncertainty, and fragility, often drawing on vanitas symbolism and the tension between beauty and mortality, familiarity and distortion.
Ebbesen has exhibited internationally. In 2024, her solo exhibition Kaleidoscope opened at Fotografiska Stockholm, and her first monograph, Self Reflection, was published by Disko Bay. Kaleidoscope was presented at Fotografiska Tallinn in 2025, and in 2026 her work was shown at the PhotoVogue Festival and Les Rencontres d’Arles.
