Biography
Poulomi Basu is a neurodiverse artist exploring power and bodies through art, film, creative technologies, and activism. Her transnational identity shapes interdisciplinary, interactive installations and experimental media.
Focusing often on women of the Global South, her work challenges dominant histories by transforming exchanges and experiences beyond origins. Rooted in photography, her practice resists any single artistic form, embracing constant interdisciplinary flux.
Raised by her mother in Calcutta, India, Poulomi was inspired by the city’s cinematic history. After her father’s death, her mother urged her to pursue her dreams beyond home.
Known for works like Blood Speaks, Centralia, and To Conquer Her Land, Basu highlights the ecological, racial, cultural, political, and personal struggles of Global South womxn. Through diverse media including photography, performance, installation, collage, virtual/mixed reality, and film, she combines reality and fantasy to fiercely advocate for silenced voices.
